Pleasant View Gardens is seeking safety-minded individuals to join our driving team during our busy spring season which runs from late April to mid-June.  Delivery regions include New England, some NY, Long Island and Northern New Jersey.

Summer 2015 Paid Internship
Garden Landscape Leader

Overview

This is a diverse and exciting experience for students in the field of horticulture who are interested in pursuing a career in this field.  This internship will allow students to apply their knowledge and put it into practice.

The main objective of the summer internship program will be to oversee the 2+ acre display garden bed preparation under the direction of the Research & Development Manager.  This is a great opportunity for someone looking to learn and understand more about using color in the landscape, why color is important in the landscape, the importance of containers, and accenting area shrub and perennial gardens with annuals.  Additionally, working and understanding the operation of a large, modern greenhouse, learn and experience our trialing processes and how a plant becomes a Proven Winner® while learning from some of the best minds in the horticulture industry.  Opportunity to appreciate the beauty of gardens, see and feel the excitement when    people visit and have a greater understanding and appreciation for why gardens and plants are so important to our world. Although the majority of the gardens would be planned in advance, there may be opportunity for design. 

Responsibilities include:

We are looking for individuals that are motivated, enjoy hard work and challenges, willing to work outside and get dirty, isn’t afraid of blisters, dirty fingernails, ripped clothing, sweating, sunburn and more.  We are looking for candidates that want to learn in an outdoor setting - apply what they have learned in the classroom and make it a real life experience. 

Previous experience is not required, just a willing and open mind and someone who has passion for what they are doing. This, along with your education will prepare you for any future endeavors you reach for.

Maintenance Technician
Job Description Overview:

This position requires an individual that is a team player with a positive, solid work ethic and strong communication skills.  Perform duties involving electrical, mechanical equipment maintenance and repair and overall maintenance of the facility and grounds. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on machines, equipment or devices which may include: dismantling and removal of defective parts; diagnose and repair mechanical problems; assemble, install or repair wiring, electrical or electrical components.  Electrical duties may include: plan layout, installation, repairing, testing and inspection of wiring, equipment, circuit breakers, or fixtures.  Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant code.  Support the Facilities Manager with various greenhouse operating systems and the general maintenance or repair of Pleasant View’s facilities.  Perform tasks and responsibilities in a professional, timely and cost effective manner.
